Feed More for Less Campaign

A commitment to making good food more accessible, reducing food waste, and supporting stronger communities through practical  local action.

-post-ai-image-32625.png

Three Challenges,
One Opportunity

Cost of Living
Many households are struggling with rising food costs and increasing financial pressures.

Food Waste
Large quantities of perfectly good food are wasted every day across the food supply chain.

Climate Impact
Food waste contributes to unnecessary carbon emissions and environmental damage.

Feed More for Less helps tackle all three.
By redistributing surplus food through local community partners, we can support households, reduce waste and help protect the environment.

Our Response

Our response is to build a connected community network that brings together food suppliers, community organisations, volunteers and local residents. Through this network, surplus food is recovered and redistributed through the Good Food for Less programme, helping make quality food more affordable, reducing waste and creating positive social and environmental impact.

What is SURPLUS food?

Surplus food is good quality food that is safe to eat but can no longer be sold through its original route. This includes excess produce from farms, as well as food from manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers that remains perfectly edible but has become surplus to requirements.

This may be due to overproduction, packaging changes, seasonal stock, short shelf life, forecasting errors, changes in demand, or products approaching or exceeding their Best Before date.

A Best Before date relates to quality rather than safety. Many foods remain safe and legally permitted to be distributed and consumed after this date, provided they have been stored and handled correctly. Lucy's Pantry follows food safety guidance to ensure food is distributed responsibly and safely.

Rather than going to waste, surplus food can be redistributed to local communities where it can be enjoyed and valued.

By redistributing surplus food through the Lucy's Pantry network, we can help reduce food waste, support local communities and ensure good food is enjoyed rather than discarded.
